Marked by the Jakarta Cyber Reserve Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police explained the “Love Scam” fraud scheme carried out by criminals and must be watched out for by the public to avoid falling victim to this type of scam. The initial victim will get to know the perpetrator through an Instagram account that has copied the photos and names of other people. After getting acquainted, the perpetrator will start chatting with the victim lightly. This is where the ‘Love Scamming’ modus operandi is used by the perpetrator to make the victim believe they have a close relationship even though they have never met. As they become closer, the perpetrator will direct the communication to a personal WhatsApp message. Through WhatsApp, they communicate intensively every day and the perpetrator starts offering online business. In this case, the perpetrator starts inviting the victim to join the Bigood application, an e-commerce platform in China. Then the perpetrator starts sending links to ask the victim to download a fake application prepared by the perpetrator. Due to the victim’s trust, the victim eventually invests money and initially sees profits. However, after the victim invests a large amount, the perpetrator cuts off communication. Once communication is cut off, the victim realizes they were deceived and reports it to the police. It is important to be cautious and avoid falling victim to this scam model, and the Metro Jaya Regional Police have uncovered cases related to the “Love Scam” fraud scheme.
