President Prabowo Subianto recently visited Saudi Arabia on July 2–3, 2025, to strengthen cooperation in providing better services for Indonesian pilgrims during their Hajj and Umrah journeys. During the visit, President Prabowo met with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah to express gratitude for the Saudi government’s commitment to serving pilgrims from various countries, including Indonesia.
The meeting highlighted the close collaboration between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia in ensuring the safety and comfort of Indonesian pilgrims during their religious activities. Both parties agreed to enhance the quality of services for Indonesian pilgrims in future Hajj seasons to ensure a smooth pilgrimage experience.
In addition to discussions on Hajj-related matters, strategic agreements were made to strengthen bilateral relations. The Saudi–Indonesia Supreme Coordination Council, co-chaired by the Crown Prince and President Prabowo, focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and technology. Bilateral trade between the two countries has been substantial, totaling around USD 31.5 billion over the past five years.
Moreover, agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed to boost private sector investment, with commitments totaling approximately USD 27 billion. These investments are expected to create job opportunities in Indonesia, particularly in areas such as energy, industrial development, and environmentally sustainable technology.
Both leaders also emphasized the importance of cooperation in the health sector, particularly in meeting the medical needs of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. Discussions also revolved around the development of the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries and the enhancement of health workforce capacity.
On the international front, President Prabowo and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated their dedication to supporting peaceful conflict resolutions in the region. They both expressed support for a two-state solution for Palestine and highlighted the role of international humanitarian organizations in promoting peace and stability.
Overall, the visit highlighted the strong and growing partnership between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia across various sectors, showcasing their mutual efforts to enhance services for Indonesian pilgrims and deepen cooperation for the benefit of both nations.
